August Update

Posted in Books, Miscellaneous on August 7, 2016 by C J Spear

Just a short blog post this month to update everyone on my writing schedule. While I was hard at work on the Return of the Dragons sequel, real life reared its ugly head and I’ve had to make some important changes, mainly that I’m now working a full-time job.

In terms of my writing, this means I now have less time on my hands, and so it will be longer before I can complete the book. I’m not particularly happy about that situation, but right now I have no choice, and I wanted to let everyone know that they shouldn’t get their hopes up about the sequel appearing any time soon.

I still plan on creating monthly blog posts (assuming I continue to find things to talk about), so you’ll still see content from me here, and I’ll sure to post the odd update on book progress.

I hope this isn’t too disappointing for anyone, but the reality is that it’s almost impossibly hard to make a living as a writer unless you’re incredibly talented or incredibly lucky (or have good connections), but I still hope I can keep producing fun stuff that people will enjoy reading; it will just appear more slowly.

As always, you can hit me up on twitter @heroicrant or just keep following me here for posts and updates.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Review (SPOILERS)

Posted in Film with tags , , , , on December 22, 2015 by C J Spear

I had a number of topics I was considering for this months blog post, and then I remembered Star Wars was coming out, and yeah this post was never gonna be about anything else. If you haven’t seen the film yet, and somehow haven’t already been spoiled, don’t read on until you’ve seen the film as I’ll be talking major spoilers. If you have seen the film, read on for my full review.

Return of the Dragons

Posted in Books with tags , , , , , , , , on November 27, 2015 by C J Spear

My new book, Return of the Dragons, is now live and for sale!

Available exclusively on amazon, it’s just £2.99/$3.99 for the ebook version or £10.00/$12.99 for the paperback. The price disparity is entirely down to the printing and shipping costs (I make about the same from both versions, so get whichever one you’d prefer!)

You should be able to preview the first few chapters on the amazon page, but I’ve heard some people have had problems with getting it to work, so you can also preview the first chapter here or on Goodreads.

Check out the amazon page for more details on the book, and if you pick up a copy, thank you and I hope you enjoy it!

Amazon US –

Goodreads –

Also, if you do pick up and enjoy the book, reviews on both Amazon and Goodreads are a huge help for me, and greatly appreciated. If you’ve already left me a review: you’re awesome!

As always, you can find me on twitter @heroicrant, or find me on my new facebook page, which you can find here:

Cataclysm Post-Mortem: Raids Part 3

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , , , on July 15, 2012 by C J Spear

Part of my on-going series to evaluate Cataclysm as an expansion, and my final piece on the raids of the expansion, this article I’ll be looking at Tier 13 – Dragon Soul. This raid was what the entire expansion had been building to, was the first raid for the new LFR system, and promised new and epic encounters the likes of which we’d never seen before. Could it possibly live up to the hype?

Cataclysm Post-Mortem: Raids Part 2

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , , on July 15, 2012 by C J Spear

First off, apologies that this has taken so long to come out. I’ve been really busy with work, moving and other things and just haven’t had the time to write. That said, at least you’re getting two articles in one go.

Without further ado then, a continuation of analysis of Cataclysm’s raids. This article: Firelands.

Cataclysm Post-Mortem: Raids

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , , on June 24, 2012 by C J Spear

With a lot of news coming out recently that seems to suggest that MoP is coming out sooner rather than later, I figured now would be a good time to look over Cataclysm in detail, to see what was good and what failed miserably. Admittedly, while I haven’t been a big fan of this expansion and a lot of things didn’t quite go to plan, there were still a lot of positives to be seen over the past two years, and I feel its important to take on board what worked just as much as its important to avoid what didn’t.

With that said, there’s absolutely no way I’m going to be able to fit everything I want to talk about into one post, and so I’ll be bringing you a series of posts over the next few weeks that will group together certain areas of the expansion, and analyse the highs and lows. To begin with I’ll be looking at raid content, starting this week with Tier 11.

Tanking in Mists

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , , , on June 10, 2012 by C J Spear

Over the last few weeks I’ve strayed away from topics to do with WoW, mostly due to just having other things to talk about, but also partly because I realize that more universal posts can reach a wider audience. That said, I’m still doing this blog for myself rather than for readers (though it’s nice when people read and comment), and now that I’m back playing WoW you can expect a few more posts to do with it over the next couple months.

Todays post is about tanking, specifically about the direction it’s taking in Mists. Before I can get to that, however, I need to outline where the role is in the game now, to analyse the changes we’re seeing in the beta and the problems I foresee.
